Celebration of San Pedro

Hola desde Ecuador!

Today we were given the opportunity to participate in our village´s celebration of San Pedro. We started the morning off by continuing to help Don Luis build the fence around the community machinery. After lunch we started preparing for the celebration! The boys wore pants and a dress shirt and they were given the traditional fur pants worn by the men in the village. Traditional skirts and blouses were given to each girl by the women in the village. The outfits were so beautiful and were completed with a locally made gold beaded necklace and traditional shoes. We then headed to the other side of the village and watched a ceremony celebrating the opening of a brand new road. We were then bused to the starting point of the festivities! We paraded down a road with the rest of the village and listened to the fun music played by the band. As we approached the end of the parade, we caught up to many other villages participating. The whole village then funneled into an area where they were able to preform their dance.  It was a very unique and amazing experience that not a lot of people get the chance to enjoy. We were always surrounded, guided and protected by the people of our community who also encouraged us to dance and have fun. We are so grateful that the village included us as part of their community and shared with us their traditions  We headed back to the village, ate dinner, and quickly fell asleep after a long day of fun festivities.

Stay posted for our next adventures!
