Alpaca time!

Hola desde Ecuador!

Some of the members of our community have a project that sells Alpaca fur to make warm sweaters, gloves and scarfs. Usually the herd of Alpacas are a 4 hours trek from the community but this week, the Alpacas were only 45 minutes away. We decided to go see them with the guidance of Don Luis, the vet of the community who also happens to be our Maestro de Obras. We walked through the town and arrived at a fenced forest. At first, we couldn’t see anything. Don Luis started to hike up the very steep mountain and we waited outside the fence. Finally we started to see the Alpacas! It was a very surreal moment to witness and we couldn’t believe how many of them we saw.  We felt very lucky to be able to visit the herd and have a better understanding about how our local, community members receive income.

The group’s favorite Alpaca was this one, the one that seems to have no eyes because of its furry face!
