The group has been persistent about their desire to milk a cow. Finally, Maria Teresa (or Mama Teresa) invited us to go with her to milk the cows. We went with her three dogs and walked 15 minutes away from the center of town. She was very patient while teaching us how to milk them. None of us were able to get as much milk as Mama Teresa! After trying out hand at milking, we got the chance to pet the calves and, learn the names of the cows. We all loved the fact that one of the cows was called Juliana, just like our leader!
This experience makes us understand and value the process of making cheese so much more. Milking a cow is not easy and the villagers do it twice a day, carrying the 20 liter vase all the way to the Queseria. We feel very lucky we got to experience milking cows with Mama Teresa as she told us about her life history and, the history of the village.
